The Role of Fingerprinting in RECA Licensing

Updated: Feb 10

The Role of Fingerprinting in RECA Licensing

1. Who is RECA?

The Real Estate Council of Alberta (RECA) stands as the authoritative body governing real estate brokerage, mortgage brokerage, property management, and condominium management licensees in Alberta. Driven by a commitment to consumer protection, fostering competition in the real estate sector, and maintaining market integrity, RECA ensures the well-being of consumers and the health of the real estate market.

2. The Importance of Fingerprinting in RECA Licensing

RECA mandates a Certified Criminal Record Check (CCRC) to verify identity and background information, aiming to prevent concerns about potential risks to the public, jeopardizing professional integrity, and safeguarding the reputation of industry peers.

To obtain a CCRC, applicants must undergo the fingerprinting and have their prints submitted to the RCMP for processing.

3. Is a CCRC Required for RECA Licenses?

RECA requires CRCC if you are:

  • Applying for a license in Alberta for the first time.

  • A licensee without brokerage affiliation in the past 12 months.

4. When Should You Apply for a CCRC?

According to RECA, the optimal time to obtain a CCRC is once you've reached the final steps of the pre-licensing education, reducing delays with your licensing process.

5. How Long Is My CCRC Valid?

For RECA licensing purposes, your CCRC must be less than 6 months old at the time you apply to RECA for your license.

6. How to Obtain a CCRC?

Please contact an RCMP-Accredited Fingerprinting Agency to start the process of obtaining a CCRC.

As one of the largest RCMP-Accredited Fingerprinting Agencies, Frontier One specializes in capturing fingerprints and transmitting them to the RCMP for conducting the Criminal Record Check. We will streamline the process by instructing the RCMP to directly mail the CCRC to RECA on your behalf, as recommended on RECA's website.

Please call us at (905) 247-3868 (ON) or (403) 731-3535 (AB), or visit our website www.f1fingerprint.ca to schedule an appointment.

Note: Please ensure to carry 2 pieces of Government-issued ID (such as Passport, Driver's License, PR Card, Birth Certificate, etc.) for verification prior to having your fingerprints captured.

7. When Will RECA Receive a CCRC?

Typically, the result will be delivered to RECA within 1 to 3 weeks directly from the RCMP if you have a clean criminal record. Otherwise, it may take up to 4 months if there is a potential match to a criminal record or if manual processing is involved, according to the RCMP.
