The Importance of Fingerprinting in Cannabis Industry Employment

Updated: Feb 10

In Canada, cannabis is legal, subject to strict regulations on advertising, purchase limits, cultivation guidelines, and specific roles within the sector. The Government of Canada legalizes cannabis to protect children, ensure adult health and safety, and prevent criminal profiteering.

The Importance of Fingerprinting in Cannabis Industry Employment

Why are fingerprints required for cannabis careers?

To prevent organized crime from infiltrating the legal cannabis industry, a criminal record check will be required.

Who needs Criminal Record Check?

Not every position in the cannabis industry entails a security risk, and therefore, not every job requires a security clearance. The following people require a security clearance:

  • Parent (owning) company

  • Applicants or license holders

  • Key site personnel (depend on the type of license, check the table below for more information).

Process of taking fingerprints

When you’re with F1 FINGERPRINTING (FRONTIER ONE INC.), we will submit your fingerprints to the RCMP on your behalf. The RCMP will be responsible for conducting the background check and issuing PCC (Police Check Certificates). The PCC will be sent to Health Canada based on the address on the consent form.

To get your fingerprints taken, you'll need two pieces of identification (such as your passport/PR card and driver's license) and the consent form. Your consent form will be filled out with the DCN number and the ink fingerprint. Before you leave, we will provide you with the instructions on how to contact the RCMP regarding your application's status.

To summarize, in Cannabis industry, the security clearance process assesses if an applicant could pose an unacceptable risk to public health or public safety. If fingerprints are required, please visit Frontier One Inc. with your consent form. Your fingerprints will be sent to the RCMP and processed through a criminal database.
