RCMP Fingerprint-based Criminal Record Check
ADOPTION
What are the differences:
For the adoption application, the applicant may need both the RCMP criminal background check and Vulnerable sector check. We only provide the fingerprinting service for criminal background check while vulnerable sector check is conducted only by your local police without the need of your fingerprints.

Federal Employment (Federal/ Security Clearance/ Reliability Clearance)
What are the differences:
Your fingerprints will be sent directly to the Canadian Criminal Real Time Identification Services (CCRTIS) of the RCMP. By using your ORI number, the RCMP will process your application and send your online result directly to the requesting agency.
Results will not be provided in hard copy. Using the DCN (Document Control Number), your employer or requesting agency can access your result within 3 business days.

Employer's letter or form containing ORI number (sample below).
*ORI (Originating Agency Identifier) represents the requesting agency. Your result will be accessed by the correct agency/department using this number.

Provincial Employment
What are the differences:
The RCMP will mail it back to your home address or to a third party based on your request letter.

Private Industry
What are the differences:
Many private companies require their employees to undergo fingerprint-based criminal record checks from the RCMP.
Other types of work are required for this check:

Any other private employment or membership to professional organizations within Canada (nursing, health care, accountant, …etc.).

A Level 2 criminal record check, also known as the Criminal Record and Judicial Matters Check (CRJMC), must be done at any local police station, especially for applicants applying for Real Estate Council of Ontario licensing. The RCMP may only need to perform fingerprinting once the local police require a more in-depth background check.

Employment Police
What are the differences:
Depending on the request letter, the fingerprints will be captured and printed on a C216C fingerprinting card or submitted electronically to the RCMP to obtain the criminal background check.

The applicant needs to mail to the RCMP to get the criminal background check done.

What are the differences:
RCMP criminal background check is required if you apply for a visa, permanent residence, citizenship in a foreign country.

What are the differences:
For Citizenship Application, the RCMP Fingerprint-based Criminal Record Check will be mailed directly back to IRCC following the instruction in the IRCC request letter.
For Permanent Residence Application, the RCMP Fingerprint-based Criminal Record Check will be mailed directly to your home address or third-party address.
Citizenship applicants between the ages of 12 and 18 will receive an RCMP Fingerprint-based Criminal Record Check at their current address as required by the Immigration Office. As soon as the RCMP criminal record check results are received, the parent must mail them to the designated mailing address.

NAME CHANGE
What are the differences:
There is a different process for Name Change depending on the province that you are from. Please obtain the instruction from your provincial name change service department.

Record Suspension/Pardon
What are the differences:
RCMP processing time is estimated up to 120 business days plus delivery time.
Please note: We are not involved in the process of issuing or delivering your RCMP Fingerprint-based Criminal Record Check.

U.S Visas - PRIVACY ACT REQUESTS
(including U.S Green Card)
What are the differences:
RCMP fingerprinting based criminal background check under Privacy Act Request is required for applicants applying for U.S visa
The application type will include “RCMP National Repository entire holdings.”
The RCMP will only mail it back to your current address by Canada Post (regular mail).
RCMP fingerprinting-based criminal background check under Privacy Act Request can be used for personal purposes or to obtain pardoned criminal records.

U.S Waiver
What are the differences:
For the U.S Waiver application, RCMP criminal background check will be the required document. If you want to obtain a C216C fingerprinting card (no record check is conducted) please notify the fingerprinting technician clearly.

If you hire an agency to do your US Waiver application, you will need a third-party consent form from them.
Vulnerable Sector Check
What are the differences:
Before contacting the Fingerprinting Agency, the Vulnerable Sector Check application must first be processed by the local police.
When your name, dates of birth, and gender match those of a pardoned sex offender, the police officer will request your fingerprints to eliminate the potential match.
The local police may issue a letter of introduction or a fingerprinting request letter, which will direct the applicant to Frontier One Inc., an Accredited Fingerprinting Agency.
Once your fingerprints have been collected and submitted to the RCMP, the result is immediately forwarded to the local police department.
The Local Police department is responsible for ensuring the Vulnerable Sector Check is completed.
The RCMP will mail it back to the police address on the fingerprinting request letter by Canada Post (regular mail).
